CULINARY CLAY : Just Desserts
with Deb Schwartzkopf
April 14-27, 2019
Led by return Gaya workshop leader, Deb Schwartzkopf, this remarkable workshop for any clay-lover with a specific interest in contemplating the intimate relationship between food and the vessel in which it is presented, is specifically honed to those who have an unparalleled love of desserts. While foraying into hand building and wheel thrown approaches to vessel-making, unique opportunities will also abound to meet with, learn from, and sample the genius of many local chefs renowned for their sweet creations. While undoubtedly encouraging expansion not only of taste buds, these immersive two weeks will also savor a conceptual perspective of the more formal design considerations of shape, texture, color and scale for functional forms. Throwing, altering, cutting templates, molding slabs, deriving and defining inspiration, and then reassembling—Deb’s complex yet articulate methods for creating unique dishes will bring a distinct flavor of the fruits and possibilities of creativity to all attending. The program will culminate appropriately in an indulgent Just Desserts evening, at which participants will star in a private dessert tasting served upon their own inspired vessels.
Open to all levels of experience.
