“Freedom, my most refined technique…” Hand Building Sculptural Forms
with Alberto Bustos
March 8-21, 2020
With fascinating precision, Alberto Bustos will lead two-weeks of immersion into clay where the objective is to model the material directly with hands, deliberately without tools, in order to most directly communicate feelings, emotions and intentions. He will introduce many possibilities of approach, including modalities of making textured plates, and square filaments both flat and rectangular. He will share the creation of stone textures using pigmented “cookies” and the application of colored pigments and glaze (powder and liquid) to wet clay in order to facilitate once-firing. Experimental works using cardboard, sponges and siliconized paper will also be presented. All these techniques will be introduced as they can apply to sculptures as well as to functional work.
“In this course I want to tell stories of hope with our pieces, from the most absolutely free and improvisational, without obsessing too much over technique.” Alberto Bustos
Open to all levels of experience.
